The town of Ascoli Piceno is located in the southern part of the Marche region and is 28 km from the Adriatic Sea. The city lies at an altitude of 154 meters above sea level, at the confluence of the river Tronto and the torrent Castellano. The climate of the city of Ascoli is type subappenninico, being sheltered by major mountain ranges. Winters are wet and cool, with snowfall and a strong drop in temperature. The summers are hot and rather infrequent rainfall mostly due to sudden afternoon thunderstorms. In the valley ascolana on hot days can reach temperatures of 37°-38°, but generally the summer evenings enjoy cool breezes that come from the Apennines in the valley and decidedly cool nighttime temperatures.
