Avellino is situated in the flattest of the so-called hollow avellinese at an altitude of 348 m above sea level. The climate is temperate in Avellino, influenced by the Tyrrhenian Sea, but it has taken considerably more continental coast of Campania. The absence of large mountain barriers in a north-south promotes the flow of current hour hot-humid Libeccio and Scirocco from the Gulf of Salerno, now cold and dry Bora. In the local dialect this weather situation is appointed respectively by the expressions "vient'e terra" and "vient'e earth." Winter is short and lasts from December to late March, is cool and rainy, with an average temperature of the coldest month of about 7°C. Snowfalls are an almost annual phenomenon, but not intense in the city center, the most significant in the hills surrounding.
