Gorizia

Gorizia is situated 84 meters above sea level at the confluence of two natural routes of communication between east and west , the Valleys of Isonzo and Vipacco, Gorizia is washed by the river Isonzo. The city is in front of the Isonzo plain surrounded by the rolling hills of the Collio known for growing grapes and producing fine wines. Gorizia is positioned to be sheltered by the mountains to the north and is not affected by the cold north winds, but is subject to the bora blowing from the east. This wind, which is generally dry, sometimes can bring heavy snowfall. The climate of Gorizia is tempered, however, affected by the winds cool and wet from the southwest. In the summer in this area are quite frequent storms and hailstorms.
