The city of Vercelli is in the Po valley, situated at the altitude of 130 meters above sea level, north-east of the Po and on the banks of the Sesia. The entire area around the city is flat and is rich in rivers and channels, including channel Cavour, which allow a copious irrigation of the territory vital for rice cultivation. The city is located halfway between the cities of Milan and Turin and between Novara and Biella. The climate is semi-continental, with cold winters and hot summers and foggy and muggy. The rains fall mainly in spring and autumn.
